  • A Boob, Two Boobs or Your Life:

Why Choosing Mastectomy is Crucial for Breast Cancer Patients When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she is faced with numerous decisions about her treatment options. Breast cancer is a grave diagnosis that can impact not just the body, but also the emotions and psyche of the patient. One of the toughest decisions that a breast cancer patient may have to make is whether to opt for a mastectomy (surgical removal of one or both breasts) or undergo other treatments such as lumpectomy, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. At least I know how difficult it was for me. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, it is crucial for breast cancer patients to understand the gravity of their decision. The choice between a boob, two boobs or your life can come down to the risk of recurrence, the stage and location of cancer, and personal preferences and values. While breast-conserving surgery can be a viable option for some patients, it's crucial for women to understand the importance of prioritizing their health and well-being over appearance and body image. Choosing a boob, two boobs, or your life is not a simple matter of aesthetics; it's a matter of survival and quality of life. However, studies have shown that mastectomy can offer significant advantages over other treatments when it comes to survival rates, quality of life, and peace of mind. Here are some reasons why choosing mastectomy can be crucial for breast cancer patients: 1. Preventing Recurrence. Mastectomy removes the entire breast tissue, which can significantly reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. While lumpectomy preserves the breast, it can leave behind cancerous cells in the tissue, which can increase the chances of cancer returning. 2. Better Survival Rates. Studies have shown that women who undergo mastectomy have a higher survival rate, especially in cases where cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body. 3. Reduced Stress and Anxiety. For many women, the fear of cancer recurrence can be overwhelming, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression. Mastectomy can offer peace of mind by eliminating the risk of recurrence and allowing women to focus on their recovery and well-being. 4. Reconstructive Options. Mastectomy can be followed by breast reconstruction surgery, which can restore the appearance of natural breasts and improve body confidence and self-esteem. Choosing mastectomy is not an easy decision, and each woman must weigh the pros and cons and consult with their doctors and loved ones. However, it's important to remember that a boob, two boobs, or your life is not a simple trade-off between beauty and health. By choosing mastectomy, breast cancer patients can not only increase their chances of survival but also regain control over their bodies and minds. Breast cancer treatment is a complex journey that requires a holistic approach that values and respects the whole person. If you're out there and are in a dilemma of what to do, I just want to tell you that you're not alone and no matter how tough it seems now, it only gets better. Please choose life, for yourself and for all the souls you're responsible for. I LOVE YOU!

How Art Can Help Us Cope with Life's Challenges I am not a professional artist, but I love art. Art has been a fundamental part of human expression since the dawn of civilization. From cave paintings to digital media, art has served not just as a means of communication but also as a source of inspiration, pleasure, and healing. Art can ignite our imagination, evoke powerful emotions, and help us make sense of our experiences, especially during difficult times. The healing power of creativity lies in its ability to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for us to explore our thoughts and feelings, express our identity and personality, and connect with others on a deeper level. I experience it everyday when i write to you. Art can take many forms, including visual arts, music, dance, writing, or any activity that involves creative expression. Some ways in which art can help us cope with life's challenges are: 1. Self-Expression: Art can help us express the emotions and experiences that we find difficult to put into words. It can serve as a channel for our creativity, intuition, and self-discovery. 2. Emotional Regulation: Engaging in creative activities can help us regulate our emotions by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Art can also promote positive emotions such as joy, pleasure, and meaningfulness. 3. Creating or experiencing art with others can foster a sense of belonging and empathy. 4. Art can also inspire us to reflect on our values, beliefs, and aspirations. Whether we are professional artists or beginners, art can be a powerful tool for personal growth, healing, and transformation. Engaging in creative activities can help us tap into our innate creativity, curiosity, and vitality, and unlock our potential to live a more fulfilling life. • The Art of Slow Living:

Embracing Simplicity in a Fast-Paced World The world we live in today is fast-paced, chaotic, and overwhelming. We are bombarded with constant stimuli from technology, social media, work, and family, leaving us little time and energy to focus on what truly matters. In such a world, the concept of slow living may seem counterintuitive, but it has become increasingly popular as people seek to regain their sense of balance, purpose, and joy. Slow living is a philosophy that encourages us to slow down, simplify our lives, and savor the moments that matter. It's about being mindful and intentional in our actions and choices, and resisting the pressure to conform to the norms of a consumerist culture. I dislike conforming to norms. It's not about doing everything at a snail's pace, but about prioritizing what's truly important and cutting out the noise and distractions that drain our energy and creativity. It's about being YOU. Some practical ways I embrace slow living include: 1. Creating Space: Decluttering our living space, simplifying our wardrobe, and clearing our calendar of unnecessary commitments can help us create a sense of calm and spaciousness. 2. Prioritizing Rest: Getting enough sleep, taking regular breaks, and practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga can help us recharge and refocus. 3. Connecting with Nature: Spending time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park, a hike in the mountains, or a swim in the ocean, can help us connect with ourselves and the world around us. 4. Embracing Simple Pleasures: Enjoying a home-cooked meal, reading a book, listening to music, or spending time with loved ones without distractions can help us appreciate the simple things in life. Slow living is not about shunning progress or modernity, but about finding a balance between the old and the new, the fast and the slow, and the complex and the simple. It's about embracing the beauty of the present moment, cultivating mindfulness and gratitude, and living a life that's true to ourselves. Embracing a life of simplicity has helped me evolve in different aspects of my life as well as given me focus. It has also helped me build my priorities and I'm continually grateful for it. I know you can fall in love with living simply if only you give it a chance. So, let's do it ! It's always my pleasure to share my thoughts with you. Knowing you're here, reading every line and digesting my message makes writing worth it for me. Thank you... I'll be coming your way again soon with yet another insightful topic, till then, stay happy...

  • The Phoenix Rises

A Poem Of Survival... In ashes the Phoenix lay Yet through the flames, it found a way To rise again, renewed and strong In spite of all that had gone wrong Its wings once scorched, now grace the sky A flame of hope that cannot die For in the face of great defeat The Phoenix found a way to beat The odds that sought to bring it down And rise above its fiery crown To shine a light for all who see That even when it seems to be The end of all that we hold dear There's still a chance to conquer fear And find the strength to carry on When all that's left is hope alone So when life's hardships come to call And seek to make us feel so small We'll remember this bird of fire And rise again, stronger, higher For in the ashes of defeat There lies a chance to find the seat Of power that can change our fate And make survival truly great.

  • Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy.

To Rebuild or Embrace... For many women who have undergone a mastectomy due to breast cancer, opting for breast reconstruction surgery is a personal decision that requires careful consideration. The decision to undergo breast reconstruction is not only a physical one but also an emotional one, as it can significantly impact a woman’s self-esteem and confidence. As a breast cancer survivor myself, I understand the emotional and physical toll of undergoing a mastectomy. After the surgery, many women are left with the difficult decision of whether or not to undergo breast reconstruction. Some may feel that it’s important to regain a sense of normalcy and reclaim their body, while others may opt to forego the surgery and embrace their new appearance. It’s a personal decision that requires careful consideration, and in this article, we’ll explore the pros and cons of breast reconstruction after mastectomy for cancer survivors to help you make an informed choice. Breast reconstruction surgery is a procedure that involves rebuilding the breast mound after a mastectomy. The surgery can include using implants, tissue expanders, or the patient’s own tissue to reconstruct the breast. The decision to undergo breast reconstruction is entirely up to the patient and their individual needs. Personally, for now, I am choosing to embrace my body as it is for personal reasons. One of which is my lack of confidence in the health system here in Nigeria to provide a seamless process. One of the main reasons women may choose to undergo breast reconstruction is to restore their sense of femininity and body image. After undergoing a mastectomy, many women feel like a part of them has been removed, and breast reconstruction can help restore their physical appearance and help them feel more comfortable in their own skin. Another reason women may choose to undergo breast reconstruction is to avoid the use of prosthetics. For some women, prosthetics can be uncomfortable, cause skin irritation, and even limit physical activity. However, breast reconstruction is not for everyone. There are some risks associated with the surgery, including bleeding, infection, and implant rupture. Women who have health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or obesity may be at a higher risk for complications during the surgery. Additionally, breast reconstruction may not be appropriate for all women. Some women may opt for a flat chest or may not be candidates for the procedure due to other health concerns. There are also several different types of breast reconstruction surgeries available, and it is important for women to understand the different options and potential outcomes before making a decision. Surgeons will work with patients to determine the best course of action based on various factors, including age, overall health, and goals for the reconstruction. Ultimately, the decision to undergo breast reconstruction after a mastectomy is a deeply personal one that requires careful consideration and discussion with medical professionals. Women must prioritize their physical and emotional health and make a decision that is right for them. Whether or not to undergo breast reconstruction is a choice that only the individual can make, and the decision should be respected regardless of the outcome. The most difficult stages are over, never let someone who knows nothing about how far you've come push you into making a decision you're not ready to. Sending my love to all the courageous fighters and survivors out there. We're the real super heroines!

  • Healing from A Heartbreak

The Road to Recovery... Heartbreak is one of the most painful experiences that any person can go through. Whether it is the end of a long-term relationship, an unexpected break-up, or the loss of a loved one, the intense feelings of grief, sadness, and loneliness can be overwhelming. However, healing from heartbreak is possible, and it is a journey that requires patience, self-care, and a willingness to let go of the past. The first step in healing from heartbreak is to acknowledge your feelings. It is important to give yourself permission to feel the pain and sadness that comes with heartbreak. Trying to suppress or ignore your feelings will only prolong the healing process. Accept that it's okay to be vulnerable and experience those emotions, but also do not stay in that place of vulnerability for too long, try to move on to the next step. Once you have acknowledged your feelings, it is important to seek support. This can come in many forms, such as talking to a trusted friend or family member, seeking professional counseling or therapy, joining a support group, or engaging in activities that bring you joy and happiness. Having the support and understanding of others can help you feel less alone and provide you with the strength and courage to move forward. Another crucial step in healing from heartbreak is to take care of yourself. This means prioritizing your physical, emotional, and mental health by getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, engaging in regular exercise, practicing self-care activities such as meditation, journaling, or taking a relaxing bath. All of these actions will help boost your overall well-being and create a sense of self-love and self-worth. Additionally, it is important to practice forgiveness. This includes forgiving yourself for any mistakes or shortcomings in the relationship, as well as forgiving your ex-partner if necessary. Holding onto resentment and anger will only hinder your healing process and keep you stuck in the past. Practicing forgiveness can be a difficult step, but it is necessary to let go of the negative emotions and move forward. Finally, it is important to let go of the past and focus on the present and future. This means embracing new experiences and opportunities, setting new goals and priorities, and creating a vision for your future that is free from the pain and heartbreak of the past. Keeping yourself busy with positive activities and hobbies will also help redirect your thoughts and emotions towards healing and personal growth. In conclusion, healing from heartbreak is a journey that requires time, patience, and dedication to self-care and self-love. It is a process that may involve different stages of grief, but with the support of others and a willingness to let go of the past, healing is possible. Remember that you are not alone, and that there are people around you ready to help and support you through this difficult time. It's never an easy process but it's possible.
